Vision of Flight Organizes First Fly Day

Vision of Flight’s first organized event, a “Fly Day” set for September 29th, 2012, will consist of education, simulation and real time in the skies for twelve local students. The students will be selected on the basis of a 500 word essay on a subject involving Aviation.

The children will begin their journey at the Oakridge YMCA. They will then be shuttled via executive transport to a local airfield, where they will receive two hours of classroom training and access to a state of the art simulation facility to expose them to some basic concepts in flight. The children will then, in groups of 4, be taken for a 30 minute flight in a small aircraft: piloted by trained professionals.

The children selected will be provided with all essential equipment, and will enjoy the entire experience at no cost. “Fly Day” will be Vision of Flight’s first full Central Florida event, with a two-week educational program set to follow at the Oakridge YMCA in mid-October.

The organizer of the event, and founder of Vision of Flight, Mike McKenzie, will be bringing together some of the biggest names in aviation, including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Fantasy of Flight, Cessna and Embry Riddle, to facilitate the event. The date itself, September 29th, was chosen to commemorate the first flight of the YF22; the prototype for the F22 Raptor.
